  • h22 in Ek wont turn over

I have an h22 in ek hatch for 2yrs now...I recently bent valves and took head off and had machineshop replace them...haven't had much time so its been parked for entire summer, till now that I put it all back together..

Problem is : it has spark, fuel, but it won't turn over...when I try to start the only thing that happens is that everything turns, timing belt , cams etc.....but no crank...just the noise from all the belts and pulleys turning like if it was off timing..which I did and checked over and over and is fine..... I also checked fuses and grounds on valve cover(2 of them) frame to trany, harness to thermostat housing....everything ok...I even swaped dizzy from a running h22 and nothing...and spark plug wires on dizzy top two 1,2 then lower 4,3 from left to right......I am, using the same plugs I took off 2months ago, but it should still try to start right? . Help please

^^^ the thing is I put timing dead on after everything is on...but once I spin crank and re check is always a bit off...does that make a difference....and about the valves, I was told I needed to start the car first b4 I adjusted them so everything can fill up with oil...but then I have to let engine get cold..sounds right 2 u?

its proballly slightly off because u had the head milded thats normal....if u had the head worked on they had to disasembled the head knocking the adjustment off so u need to adjust the valve when the motor is completely cool not in operating temperature...from u cranking the motor it should be aight with oil

Im pretty sure your firing order on the diz is incorrect, when you attempt to turn over does it pop or sputter at all? Try this if that doesnt work then try sanding your grounds all the way to bare metal.

But my dizzy is facing str8 up..or is ur pics just a sample of firing order? And yes once it did a loud..very loud pop out the exhaust.....is the rotor in dizzy supposed to be facing the cylind.#1 plug/wire on cap?

Oh and mark, when I turn the key it doesn't try to start...everything turns but no start attempt..or is that cause of firing order?

The head had a valve job, and re surf..but they also did take it completly apart to figure out the rckn noise....so not to question ur experien...at all, but if valves r not adjusted, isn't it supposed to still try to start?....

                THANKS FOR HELPING GUYS!!!

The dizzy needs to be facing exactly how it is in that picture or it will not fire correctly. Make it so that the square end is to the right exactly how it is in the picture, then move your spark wires as they are in the picture. You will now have the correct firing order. Attempt to start the car if the starter does not engage check the starter solenoid for a short or a loose connection. If everything looks to be ok sand the tranny ground to bare metal on the frame clean the ground and tighten back up. It SHOULD start at this point if not let me know.

I don't think anyone said to do a valve adjutment. Try that

But if the starter is not working, would everything still turn? Crank and all, cause starter was put in new b4 head was removed

If the starter is not working check the solenoid and the fuse, you still need the right firing order for it to start so you should fix that problem first. If the car popped then the flywheel is turning, and if the belts are moving like you said the motor is spinning.

Try what they allsaid. Valves. I got my head from the machine shop n the valves were to tight so it was opened a lil causing no compression.
