I have been on both sides of this issue for a long time. I have done sanctioned races and I have done illegal street races.
There are a few LARGE contributing factors on why people choose to race on the streets
1. Its FREE.
2. There are no local drag strips in CT.
3. Not everyone wants to auto cross ( I love it but a lot of people don't)
I am not debating with you. I agree with you and as a responsible adult with a lot to lose, I will never street race again but there is definitely something about watching races, legal or illegal that stimulates me and tons of others.
It's pretty fucking far from being free when you pay with your life.Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

Racing on the street or the track poses the same dangers. Some of the cars down there are track built cars (caged, NHRA certs, etc)RIP NHSWAPS13203

The street is an uncontrollable environment. You risk the innocent lives of the public when you race on the street. Its the most selfish, ignorant, disgusting thing you can do to disregard the safety of children, adults, etc just to get a cheap thrill in a POS FWD econobox.
The track is lined with barriers that deflect an impact so as to decelerate the car slowly and minimize the severity of those impacts. The street is lined with fixed objects like poles and trees that will decelerate a car instantly and kill you.
The track has rules against morons making a pass with someone in your back seat. That alone would have prevented this death. Get it? Street racers are too stupid to think critically, at least at the track they think for you.
The track has a staffed ambulance present on the site.
I could go on and on about the differences.
You say you dont want to debate this, but you are debating it. And you are spewing the same ignorance of every selfish street racer out there.
edit: And a caged car on the street is more dangerous than an uncaged car. I know of someone that was killed in a 25mph accident when they bumped their head on their roll bar. If any of these people spent even a second on the right side of the law, they'd know what the real racers have known for the better part of a century.Last edited by testify; 08-29-2014, 09:18 AM.Good judgement comes from experience.
