  • b18c swap fault code help needed

I recently had a jdm b18c swapped into my eg. The check engine let comes on everytime I drive it so I finally read the codes and they were as follows... btw I'm running a stock p72 with an intake.
    8- TDC position sensor...?
17- VSS speed sensor...have a new one to throw in
    23- knock sensor...?

So at this point I'm kind of stuck, I'm gonna check the cam gears and pulleys and make sure that the no.1 cylinder TDC is all lined up nice, but looking for a little insight.

my mechanic said he wired up the knock sensor, my speedo doesn't work but vtec does pop..? If all my marks line up would it be a sensor?, and do you think the tdc and knock sensor faults are related?

he must have wired it up wrong then. Or your knock sensor is bad. Normally if your VSS doesn't wprk vtec will not work. Thats weird. Sounds like maybe he messed up on some wiring.

thanks for the help, ill keep plugging away at it, i should probably just drop it off and say finish what you started, but then i wouldn't see my car for a least a month so I'm trying to handle it myself

But if he's running a usdm ecu it will look for one. I believe vtec will work without a knock sensor. But without a VSS normally it wont work.

so i checked the tdc positions on the crank pulley and the cam gears...when the cam gears are lined up nice nice the white dot on the pulley is like 1/4 to 3/8 of and inch off; towards the "back" of the car, however the car runs great, if i was a tooth off or two would it be noticable? As far as the knock sensor, I'm not positive I have one but my mechanic did point to a sensor right below the middle of the intake manifold in the block saying thats where it was. thanks for all the help btw, just trying to tie up someone else's loose ends and hopefully learn something in the process.
