To keep the strut extended to close to stock length so they don't blow

For those that you dont know and dont have full coilovers. top hats allow more suspension travele on lowered cars to prevent the strut from bottoming out. In simple terms, the ride wont be shitty when you youre slammed to shit on some cut/ebay springs. These really work, they stiffen uo the ride and saves struts. from personal experience.
