FS: 1999 Lexus GS 300 (Fairfield)

I'm a tech at Toyota if that check Engine light is the cats their worth 2 grand and some aftermarket ones probably run 800 but only last around a year

Its an O2 sensor upstream of the catalytic converter. There are 4 O2 sensors on the GS 300, iirc, 2 upstream and 2 downstream of the cat, iirc. My mechanic, John at J & R Service Center, isolated which sensor it was, and we chose not to replace it at that time. I think the part is almost $150 and they charge well over $100/hr for labor over there. Not worth putting money into the car that I won't get back.

In fact, I'm sure I have paperwork and an estimate stating exactly what I've just said.

As far as I know, there are no issues with the catalytic converters.

I've had a cat melt down on a 99 Z28, and my brother has an Explorer with all of the symptoms, I'm quite familiar with the signs of catalytic converter failure. As far as the symptoms that you'd feel as the cat is beginning to melt down, there are none present on this car.


I may bring it to the Milford McDonalds meet next week, people can look at it and someone can check it out to vouch that this is a solid car.
