rebuild my boosted d series

My friend has a single cam boosted with a ebay turbo. His motor has a lot of miles on it. He wants to get a swap but would prefer a d16, so he could keep the turbo. Any suggestions on what d16? He would like to do cams,pistons, headers,intake manifold, etc..

It's not that the y8's have shitty bearings. It's that they don't have as many oil ports for the crank as the z6. Which results in easier spun/chewed up bearings.
