ok bought a 95 ls with a turbo on it... the motor is all stock... im basically f*****d for money right now cuz i crashed it, but once i can afford it is it safe to b driving it at 8lbs of boost? or should i have it set to 4 or 6lbs? and wat r some smaller mods i could do to give me the extra stability?
LS/T :D :D haha still workin on her.

with the right fuel (injectors / fpr / pump / octane). using the stock map sensor you can boost 11lbs max safe. its all about the tune.

questions the tuner should ask is how long do you want this engine to last?
push the motor to the max or be conservative and make it last longer.

i know from personal experience last year. i made 250hp with a stock LS motor @ 9psi. this was in my daily driver and i was on the petal all the time. ok sure i blew it up but that was because i ran out of gas on the highway @ 10psi. im a dumb ass.. hahaha now time for a build. :D

i used stock map, 440cc injectors, walbro 255 fuel pump, 93 octane at all times, and a chipped chrome ecu. it was street tuned and i never had a problem.

if theres something you need let me know. im your local parts dealer. ;)

Nice to see another stock LS-T. I have a stock b18a1 in my db2 integra, Vband and external wg converted Garrett tbo356, DSM 450's, Hks hi-power exhaust, aem wideband, chipped p72 street tuned (by me :p) on 8 pounds, with a G meter estimated hp of 215whp. The rest of the parts (bov, wg, IC and ect.) are ebay brand. (saves lost of money)

            But back on subject..

Boost pressure is kind of irrelivent to how the motor will hold up. Horsepower breaks parts, not nessicarily boost. A better question would be how much HORSEPOWER will it take to limit your stock internal engine components and daily drivability.

A stock ls motor is capable of around 300chp. The weak points are the stock rod bolts, stock pistion ringlands, stock head bolts and stock head gaskets. That would let you yeild 400-450 hp with a safe margin.

To make your setup the least bit safe and reliable, your going to need the following.

Larger Injectors (DSM 450's fit the bill for around $100)

Chipped and socketed obd1 ecu, so you can have it safely tuned or so you can run a base map. The most IMPORTANT task of your build is in the tune!!

Wideband a/f meter, so you can monitor your air to fuel ratio. (VERY Crutial in forced induction vehicles!).

Stage2 or better clutch. Stock one holds to about 180ftlbs.

If your looking for 250+ horse power, you'll want a walbro 255 fuel pump. Stock ones are good up to just under 250hp.

Oil feed restrictor. If you dont use one you'll end up blowing your turbo oil seals very quickly.

Other than that, have fun! And welcome to the wonderful world of boost!

either way if you have a safe tune or not, thats like a 1yr car, depending on driving conditions..if you beat it that makes it worse, honestly your better off waiting for supporting mods(internals, etc. you can't just up the fuel and call it a day), i would turn it down to the lowest setting, and treat'er like a virgin. but i mean this only if you want the car to last. and theres way too many half ass tuners, with shitty maps..lets be realistic, how many blown up stock motor turbo vs. built turbo?? lets say um 12-1, just for shits and gigs.

but then again this is just my opinion. so w.e.

Oh, i am shure there are many people who have blown stock motors very quickly on a turbo build. But, as long as you motor is healthy (do a compression and leak down test to determine this), you get a good tune from a reliable source, and dont mess with the boost after having it tuned.

Youll be good as long as you maintain the motor well (ie. changing/gapping spark plugs REGULARY, changing oil/checking oil level frequently and running on atleast 93 octane to keep detonation down), monitoring air to fuel ratios on a wide band is the most crutial way from keeping your motor from blowing and finally like the previous poster said, if you want it to last don't beat on your motor all the time.

If you take care and even respect your motor, you can make it last a long time. Ive seen people with stock ls-t setups go for 3+ years on honda-tech!!

there is a few 300 whp stock LSr's that street the car daily for a considerable amount of time.
                  theres no replacment for boost:)
