Block Guards are recommended, people just usually install them incorrectly, which create problems.
Install the block guard as directed:
1.) De-Burr the Block cooling jacket around the tops of the cylinders
2.) Drop the Block Guard in (Do Not Push or Press in)
3.) Level the block guard with Head mating surface of the block.
4.) TIG Weld into place
5.) Bore & Hone Cylinders
6.) Machine Head mating surface of block.13203

if you just drop it in and not hone your walls you will F*ck up your motor bad. aslo if your going to get one only get the GE one they have the best flow.
ALSO you dont really need a BG unless your going to be running high HP numbersR.I.P Nick "NHSwaps" Haines 6/26/84-5/1/10

Stop listening to these guys man.....You going boost? Put a block guard in there....it's a $100 insurance for the cylinder sleves, but I'm telling you, get it put in at a machine shop, because if you try to do it yourself, you can easily make the cylinder slevees look like an egg shell instead of a perfect circle. I know this, it happened to me.
Anyway, there is really no cooling issues with them, if your car is properly built, you are going to have no problems.
