  • Turbo prep help?

Hello, I have a civic with a ls swap and I want to turbo it, but I just started learning about cars so I dont know much. I dont want to blow my enigine or anything so what should I upgrade before putting turbo? (pistons?, etc.)

How many miles on the motor? You can turbo it and not have to do internals as long as you dont push it to hard and dont beat the snot out of it. Start off at like 5 or 7 psi should be good enough WITH A TUNE!! I dont know much about B-series engines but im sure the LS is a lower compression motor than a b16 or a gsr motor. Ive been on 11 psi on a stock motor for over a year now and havent had any problems . Prolly a new clutch and flywheel will be in order for the extra tq ur gona produce

In all honesty if you don't know much about cars and have a lot to learn then you should NOT turbo your car for a while...

If the motors in good condition follow superchargedk20 n also a cometic head gasket, arp head studs n from there tuning is key, I've seen bone stock ls's wit bs ebay kits do 260hp daily...

Agreed, modifying cars takes lots of knowledge of what your working with, time and money. i would suggest starting off with basic mods and learning what each and every part of how motors work, turbo systems work, look into other peoples builds, etc... its very very very important to know how everything works and what parts work with what to achieve power and "reliability".

but to answer your question in a basic sense... it all depends on your power goals... if your looking to have some crazy fast 600whp giant turbo LS then your pretty much going to have to upgrade a lot of stuff... probably just about everything. but in your case it sounds like your just trying to achieve a mild to stock platform so probably a close to stock motor with some bolt ons like a less restrictive exhaust for example with a decent turbo setup running low boost and a TUNE would be in your best interest.
