hell no a ebay kit is whats gonna make u blow ur motor they burn out all the time sometimes the boost can go up and u wont know then boom.. and they have peek power not consistint like a good turbo.. with a ebay turbo u can make certain power at certain rpm and thats it cause it will go to 10 pounds then go back down i dont know why ebay turbos dont hold power they suck

if u aint got the money then dont do it cause u need a walbro fuel pump and some 550cc injectors what year is ur car? turbo cars waste alot of gas and alot of oil so it gets expensive.

the pressure a turbo puts out has absolutely nothing to do with the turbo itself. it's all in boost control.

if you're looking for good power out of a stock internal d series, i'd get something small and reliable. a stock turbo off of a factory turbo car is probably your best/cheapest bet.

i'd recommend either a 14b off the 1g dsm, or a 16g- both are mitsu flanged. 14b turbo's can make in excess of 250whp, 16g's can make up to 350hp depending on what variant you get.

boost presssure is all relative as well- it's hard to say 'you can run 12psi before your motor blows' because 12psi on a small turbo isn't the same as 12psi on a bigger turbo.

tuning is key- especially on a stock motor. make sure you can monitor everything that's going on with the car (boost, a/f, knock, injector pulsewidth, etc). get a good set of gauges, and a way to log what the ecu is actually seeing.

tru indeed small turbos are deff the way to go u dont want the lag.. and the y8 is a strong single just get the eclipes turbo from a junk yard or someone has one they spool so fast and are fun and the last if it goes there easy to find

y8's are known to spin bearings too, due to oil pressure. the demands of a turbo oiling system make the motor potentially more likely to spin a bearing than if it was NA.

as long as you don't half ass a kit, you'll probably be just fine with under 10psi on a good tune. just pay attention to everything that's going on, the car can make probably 200whp on stock internals easily, and be reliable.

get the necessary supporting mods, and have a blast. it's cheaper to piece together a kit than to buy a bs ebay one that uses knockoff parts that don't have the quality to perform like they need to.
