  • Diagram: How to install fog lights on OBD1 and OBD0 vehicles.

I decide to do this diagram because I got some eBay fog lights without the factory harness that comes with them to install them properly the right way they should go.

If you have that harness I recommend you to dismiss this diagram and search the web for the right tutorial/diagram to install the fog lights correctly.

So that being said my diagram it's not the PERFECT right way to do it but it could help some people or give more ideas to those experienced ones.

Let's start with the stuff that you should know and consider for legal use:
1- In most states it's illegal to have the fog lights on without the headlights low beams on at the same time.
2- In most states it's illegal to have the fog lights on while the headlights high beams are on at the same time.
3- Yes this means fog lights are suppose to be legally used with the low beams on only.

Fog lights on with headlights off it's illegal in most of the states. This is why vehicles from factory came with relays or automated switches that turn the fog lights off if the headlights are off or if the headlights high beams are on.

Some people connect the fog lights to the running lights (corner lights/parking lights) so when they turn the running lights on the fog lights turn on too. But this is something not recommended because the wiring for all of the factory lights are made to be used only the way they are setup.

Installing/splicing additional lights into those wires could lead to:
    (Common) Blow fuses or...
    (Worst) Burn the wiring.
Specially if the lights to be installed are high density lights like in example "fog lights".

The issue with my diagram and the way I have my 94 Civic DX fog lights setup is that I need to remember to turn the fog lights switch off when I shutdown the engine or it will drain my battery. But this is something to remind with regular running lights too because this old Honda/Acura models do not have the technology to turn the lights off by itself from factory like the new cars.

But for that reason that's why I used a toggle switch with ON/OFF light because the light on in the dash will remind me to turn the fog lights switch off.

    Here's the diagram I made:

Any comments, suggestions are very welcomed.

I have always used ebay harness used the relay set up that comes with them ... 12v+ to battery and the other side of the relay looks only for .5-1v to trigger the relay .... Tapped off parking lights

Good write up tho ..... Bump
