  • Hydro GSR Gear Set & ITR LSD Install into a 92-93 YS1 Cable Tranny Case

This is what happens when people that THINK they know what they are doing when rebuilding a tranny & installing hybrid items.

I was given the opportunity to Rebuild this tranny into a Functioning, LSD Equipped, GSR Geared, Properly Shimmed, Cable style B-series Beast!

This is only Pics & Pic Descriptions for now, until the Job is Done. Once Finished, I will revise this thread into a thorough Write-up, done Correctly

Sorry about the Pic quality. It's my Car Stuff Camera, Wife wont let me use the Good one.

The F*cked Up, LSD, GSR Gear Set Installed YS1

The YS1 Case that I sold the Customer, after a Little Cleaning. I will get some Dirty Case Pics up alittle later.

    The LSD(Left) & The Stock LS Diff.(Right)

How Not to Build a tranny!

This is the Good YS1 Case before Clearancing

The Good YS1 Case After Clearancing

My Home Made Tapered Bearing Preload Special Tool, considering the actual Honda Special Tool is dis-continued. Shit worked damn good though! Diff. Bearing Preloads cameout to about 23lbft-in. after I correctly shimmed the LSD, this is out of the 18.7-to-26.9lbft-in spec range. Perfection right here!!

The Mainshaft Assembly. This pic shows how I prep the Gear Cones for proper Syncro Break in
      Before

      After

The NEW Triple Cone Brass 2nd Gear syncro & Carbon 3rd Gear Syncro

      The Mainshaft Assembly Build.

Huh, Can you tell which Shaft set has been Cleaned/Prepped!!

      And now to the Countershaft

5th/Reverse Sleeve Hub set. The scored heavily hub on the right is from the GSR gear set, so I used the 5th-reverse Sleeve/Bub Set off of the original YS1 LS gear set

Now, the Fully Cleaned & Prepped Gear Set

From what i can see the case wasnt ground down to accept the bigger diff. and it looks like maybe they attempted to tighten the case down wrong and broke it?

Yeah, he didn't grind down the case before installing the LSD, & from what I understand, This tranny was used on a Honda-Tech Members 2liter CRX, & by the looks of the Bearings, I would say that they were used. I think that chunk of Case was missing was broken off by blunt force/impact. And the fact that there are ground down areas in the clutch case half, I would say that this tranny was installed & used, but didn't last long or make it very far.

It's all good, I will enjoy this build, just throw another notch on the belt.

Nothing, other than some dis-assembly of the gear set, for cleaning & inspecting. Also been checking Diff. Bearing, & mainshaft Thrust clearance's.
