  • Compressor surge....

Ok so i have compressor surge :o

It sounds pretty, but i know isnt fantastic for my turbo. The problem is the BOV i have, i get surge at anything below like 2 PSI.

Anybody have any ideas? I adjusted the BOV, no boostleaks, and ive tried everything

The surge isnt too bad, but how bad is it for my turbo?

No, its not really bad, and it sounds sooo wicked :D

I just want to take all possible precautions so my turbo lasts me a little while.

Above a few PSI i dont beilive its surging, but because i have a huge open wastegate, i cant hear. It really only surges under like 2 PSI...

When your turbo spins backwards its not a good thing. Compressor surge occurs when the throttle plate of a turbocharged engine closes and the pressurized air is forced back into the turbocharger’s compressor housing causing the turbo to slow down. Compressor surge not only decreases the spool of a turbo but can also damage its center cartridge.

Had a small boost leak, and adjusted my bov, fine now. Sounds fantastic.

Im running a HKS racing bypass valve (original JDM)

yes the HKS sucks but the WRX/STi uses a Mitsu part # on the OEM bov

Its not an SSQV, its an original bypass valve. I hate the ssqv....
