  • AEM v2

hello i have a 96 civic hatch and have AEM v2 in it was wondering on ways this car can pass emissions in the state of Ct. Anyone?

As long as you don't have any CELs and can pass the visual inspection for a catalytic converter you will pass.

An intake is completely legal in this state.

        Okay.

I guess I wasn't following. An "AEM V2" is an intake.

I see now that you are referring to one of AEMs stand alone engine management systems.

There is an extremely easy way to figure out if it will pass like that. Grab $20 and head over to your local testing facility.

If it doesn't pass because of the stand alone, just pop your OEM ecu back in and pass.

What is done to the car?

If its a mild build or just a turbo kit on a stock engine, you could probably disconnect the charge pipe and toss in stock injectors. Then it should run good enough on the stock ECU to pass.

Assuming you don't have a CEL for anything with the stock ECU in. Any CEL at all on an obd2 car will fail.

Many questions here. Is it still running on a map sensor? Stock harness? Wideband?

The only option I would see is returning the ECU, injectors, FPR, map sensor and O2's to stock. Wire the wastegate open, remove the charge pipe like someone else said and then drive the car about 100-200 miles, and multiple drive cycles, to make sure all the readiness monitors reset and the CEL does not trip.

Or if you want to skip all the emissions bullshit for good, there are ways, but it's not cheap.

You need to fail twice and then show proof that you've spent a certain amount of money (about $600 IIRC) at a licenced repair shop fixing your emissions system and still will not pass.

If you can do that, the state of Connecticut will exempt you from emissions.

That is a hassle. Other easier ways.

There are no other legal ways.

Sure, there are about 1000 crooked shop that will pass you for a fifty dollar bill, hut it seems like OP isn't interested in doing that or else he would not have made this thread.

No sketchy shops involved. It is 100% legal. Have had cars done this way before, even the ones that had Japanese VINs. But like I said, not cheap, about $1,200 a car.
