  • Turbo Help?

So I recently bought a car with a turbo kit, (NOT INSTALLED, STILL IN BOX)
and I believe it is a ebay turbo kit. I know it's not the name brand ones but I plan on running like 9psi on it just for a fun daily driver. How's the rep on ebay turbos, and what should I know about them. BTW I am having it professionally installed. I am a noob to this so a little help would be nice, thanks!

the main problem with Ebay turbo kits its in the turbo and manifolds. the turbo are poorly built and not balanced meaning they won't last very long. on the manifold side they tend to crack easily when put through alot of abuse. also usually the piping won't be a direct fit some modification may be needed. but if u just want to say u have a turbo car they are good to run 8-10 psi no problem.

so around 10 psi, and if I have it done by a JDM shop, then I'll be fine?

its not really about who does the conversion its the parts used. let's say u buy a cheap head gasket and have a certified mechanic do the job then 500 miles later ur head gasket is bad is it the mechanics fault or the part used??? same concept here the turbo kit may our may not last very long some have lasted years without trouble and others broke in merely a week. i'm just throwing out info for you so you can get an idea of what you have.also its not about psi when building an engine for anything it had to be about balance of reliability and power. that you're tuner will help in doing.gl with the build

So would I be best to just sell it and buy a legit turbo? because my mechanic is Digital Sound in West Hartford. They specialize in swaps and turbos etc.

that's up to you bro i'm just trying to guide you and give the info you asked for if u want a car that is just for you to have fun in then the Ebay turbo is good but not if u want to go fast and furious style and start racing everyone it will break eventually. if your not that into the racing hobby then the Ebay turbo is for u

make sure you run an restricter on the oil feed line to the turbo, that will help the turbo last alot longer, get the right size injectors with a tune & you shouldnt have any major issues...
