  • what size wheel?

    Hey guys.

I know this has been covered alot, but I'm looking to buy wheels soon. Right now I have progress cs-II coilovers on my 1996 Civic Coupe and I'm at the 12" height (from center of the wheels to the fender) recommended by Progress themselves. I have my eyes on:

    kosei k1 15x7 +38 http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

    949 6UL 15x8 +38 http://949racing.com/15x8-6UL.aspx

    TRM C1 16x7 +42 http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...6&autoModClar=

    I want to go with a 205 size tire. Either 45 profile for a 16" wheel or 50 for a 15" wheel.

Which do you guys think will fit best? I want to avoid rolling my fenders if possible. The car is not crazy low right now, about 2 1/4" - 2.5" drop or so front and rear (sorry I cant remember exactly). I still can fit about a finger between the stock 185/65 R 14 tire size and the fender, if that helps you get an idea of where I'm at. I have no problem getting a camber kit and running some negative camber if needed.

I like the 949 wheels the most but if I have to role fenders or do anything like that then I'll choose one of the other wheels. I would like to autocross this car as well if I get the opportunity (if that makes any difference)

Any insight is appreciated, thank you.

oh ok thank you. just wondering why would you recommend k1 over 949? just curious since it says the 949 weigh less at 11.6 pounds and k1 is 13.5 pounds. or do you say that mainly because of the difference in wheel size?

K1's are a pretty old wheel. Still good though. The 6ULR's are improved with every generation. They are currently on their 4th generation, which just came out within the last month, which is why you don't see the 15x7, 15x7.5, or 15x10 versions available yet.

The 6ULR is actually designed around the NA and NB Miata, but their fitment translates perfectly to 88-00 Honda's, save for some rear trailing arm clearance issues on EF's in anything bigger than 15x7.5.

There really is no performance advantage to going to a 16" wheel, I'd avoid it. It's just going to make your car accelerate slower unless you are making lots of torque.

          I'm partial to the 6ULR's....

I'm not rolled, I don't rub, but I'm also not slammed and running some high spring rates.

alright, i think ill go with the 6ULR wheels then. I was wondering why i only saw 15x8 and 15x9 available and none of the other sizes on the site. but if i can do the 15x8 with no problem then ill go with those, im fine with raising the car if need be. thanks for your help guys

hatch looks good testify i enjoyed reading your thread btw. love seeing these cars be used for more than just straight lines

              Question:

I was doing some reading online, and i read that a few people needed to grind off alittle bit on the top of the rear upper lca in order to clear. some said that the wheel cleared it fine but was just really close. would this be something i should worry about? i believe they said its fine for aftermarket camber arms, the people that menioned this had the stock ULCA i believe. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this or has had to deal with this before. I know you said it should fit fine but better safe than sorry
