  • Odd squeak sound as rear wheel spins

Car: 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan (FA5)

A few weeks ago my car started to make a noise coming somewhere from the rear passenger wheel from what it sounds like. It only happened when I would coast under 25mph. After a few days it started to make the noise around 25, and now it makes the noise even when I'm going around 35 or higher and it is much louder. It sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger and sounds like the squeal you hear when your brake pads are real worn down but it only happens every time the wheel spins a complete rotation so it is consistent, sort of like a squeak squeak squeak that speeds up when I go faster and slows down when I slow down. I haven't noticed the sound when I go in reverse yet. What could the problem be? I figured it could be the wear indicator on the brake pads so I checked the rear pads and they're still basically new but the noise is still there, nothing has changed. I do drive the car a lot since I go to school am hour away and I commute so this sound has become really obnoxious to me. I really want to fix this before I begins summer course.

That would drive me insane too haha. To me it sounds like you have a slight harmonic vibration from your rear brakes. Even if they're brand new they can have vibrations that make those noises. You should try taking the brakes off on that side and adding some anti-squeal goop to the back of the pads. They sell little packets at autozone for like $2. Hope you can figure it out

Maybe the dust sheild/backing plate is making contact with the rotor?

Have you take the rotor off to make sure there isn't a rock stuck between the rotor and the dust sheild/backing plate?

My last wild guess is that the pads can develop a bit of a sharp lip around the outside edge of the pad that can cause a noise similar to a pad wear indicator. The answer for that is to remove the pad and ever so slightly sand to remove the sharp edge around the friction material.

Wheel bearings tend to make a whooshing, grinding, or thumping sound when they're going bad, I've never heard one squeak, so I doubt it's that.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

I came here to say this. Seems as though my buddy testify has beat me to it though lol.
          Good luck

I've removed the rotor and pad from the rear and everything checked out fine so I'm going to do the same with the front when the sun comes out to play.

I'm putting money on wheel bearing. Civic rear wheel bearings go quite frequently 06 and up. I see at least 3 a week in here at Honda.
