    While were on the topic, its not a bad idea to know the long hand version.

    To find a tires overall diameter, do the following.
    Ex1: 275/40/R17

    275 = tire width in mm. Must convert it to inches.
    275 / 25.4 = 10.8

    10.8 is how wide the tire is. Multiply this by the profile percentage.... in this case 40. Convert it to a percentage aka put a decimal in front.

    10.8 x 0.40 = 4.32

    4.32 = the sidewall height in inches. Since there is sections of sidewall, multiply that by 2.

    4.32 x 2 = 8.64

    8.64 is the total sidewall height.
    Now add the wheel size.

    8.64 + 17 = 25.64.

    This tire assembly will be 25.64 Inches tall.

    This calculation has been particularly useful for measuring wheel/tire combos for sensitive awd setups and cars with TCS to worry about! Especially cars with staggered fitments!
