  • welding a diff??

i have a 90 or 91 b16 trans in my drag car. i have yet to find a lsd diff for it and i cant even find a spool..if sum 1 has a link to someone that sells anything please hit me up..now, how reliable would it be to have my diff welded.. i know sum 1 who understands exactly like a scientist,, how metal works,,and he would be able to weld it together and it would be perfectly welded,,,how much horsepower would this be able to handle???

a welded diff should be virtually indestructable.

i was thinking if the drivers axle was removed a spool or welded diff would be fine on the street thenn when you go to the track you put the drivers axle in..its not a daily driver but i do take it out on the streets..its not but a few mins to install the axle so its reasonable

the car's just gonna hop when you try to turn it, and act like it's binding up. it'll be driveable on the street with both axles.

Its going to be drivable but its just going to turn like a tank.

exactly. i used to weld the center diff's on AWD dsm transmissions. pain in the ass, but definitely daily-driveable.

im going to do it. its a really cheap way for me to get traction at the track,,on the sreet though i see havin both axles in putting alot of stress on the dif, so ill remove the drivers axle for the street and when i go to the track ill just pop it in.. but thats not the point of this, the point is is it strong enough and i think it is so im goin to give it a try

if it will be used as a track it will hold anything you give to it... on the street ehhh thats a different subject yes it will be a pain just to turn, to make a U turn hehehe a lot harder than you may think... anyway good luck with your set-up

the car is borderline even being able to be on the street at all so its not drivin a hole lot on the streets,, so im pulling it apart having the mad scientist weld her up and at the same time looking for a LS final drive to throw in there....any 1 gots 1 hit me up

i got a ls fd and a couple of gsr stock diffs with bearings.... um i got 2 ls diffs, 2 gsr diffs, 1 gsr fd, 3 ls fd and 1 blown ls diff lmk and a shit load of extra bearings they go for $65 a pop at dealer.. i got boxed in bearings and open the 94 - 96 gsr came open the 97 - 01 came closed like all the ls ones..

u can weld it but i dont know how long it will hold my buddy just did that to his fwd dsm and it holding but it hasent been beatin on..... i can set u up with a quaife lsd new bearings with my labor for 1,100 everything brand new, ill even throw in the higher pressure washers inside the quaife so theres barely any slipping in between both sides adds more compression or clamp to the left side

check out my thread i built this trans not to long ago. a dude out in westchester NY bought it of me. Just 2 months ago i got word from him car went 9.98 @ 146 thats 32psi reving at 10,000 he launchs at 7,500 13psi off 2step.. he says the trans loves it and car stays nice and straight.

u can get a lsd for the small shaft cable tranny? i havent found 1 yet,,hmm 1100 is a good price but i just dont have that kind of money right now,,i want a ls final drive though 4 sure hit me up ona price cuz...b16 gears+boost= me going nowhere,, also i now swear by royal purple anything..the tranny currently in the car had a grind evrytime goin into 3rd under normal driving conditions, i changed out the regular oil for royal purple 10w-30 and now it shifts smooth as butter,,couldnt believe it,, and im going to weld the diff for now unless i come across a lsd for around 500..im getting mixed feelings from every one,,some people are telling me its going to break without a dought and some people saying its goin to be bulletproof...the car will have 550+ whp in the spring and itll be 400 whp as soon as it goes back together..any kno sum1 with this kind of power and a welded diff and how it holds? the guy thatd be welding it know all about how to weld hardend steel so the welder would not be the problem
