I was actually one of those people that always hung up on telemarketers until one day i started to sell electricty and became one myself and understood it.

Not all telemarketers are out there to fuck everyone.. For example when i sell electricity it doesnt cost a person anything, but actually saves them money for a simple "ok".

Sometimes its good to give them your couple mins to understand whats going on and then just say your not interested.

It costs me my time, so I'm going to use it to entertain myself. If they can't get the hint that I'm not interested then they can call back and we can do it again. This gets them to stop calling back, it also reduces the number of new callers. Regardless if they are out to fuck anyone or not, they are annoying. Unless they can bring me fiber optic internet speeds for cheaper than my cable plan, I have no interest in changing any of my utilities, services, or anything else.
