Flash fill is when you use flash in a high light situation like taking pics in direct sun. It will even out the lighting so you won't have such strong shadows on the subject. Also look into getting/making a flash diffuser if you don't have one. They work great with popup flashes.

nice thats a good idea.. and when shooting depending on the situation i shoot in modes... like portrait for shots of cars,, moving for moving subjects,, or like night for night time.. is it good that way or is there a better way

I shoot in manual mode but that's because I tend to think I can do it better than the processor can. Shooting with the modes is good, once you get comfortable with the camera try going to aperture priority or shutter priority.
