well im not 2 sure about that clear coat thing but im saying if you have dents to get out then its worth a shot i mean you gotta spend some money to at least get a few dents out but if your thinking on getting your car painted sometime in the future then why not i mean as long as you take care of your car the paint can be fine until you paint it i mean my roof need to b painted bad but iv done so much just 2 keep it up so it doesn't do some long term damage....but who knows if that clear coat thing isn't true then he just looking to get every last drop outta your pocket as he can but im not knocking your body man but think about it ....feel me

I read online it could mess up paint. My body guy didn't say anything about it messing up paint. He is a good guy, not interested in ripping people off. Anyways, I have been reading about the dry ice thing...here are a few links:

gotta skim for the relevant stuff
Well, we have seen it, all the videos on youtube and what not showing someone rubbing a chunk of dry ice on a dent and it comes right out. I have seen it posted on a number of forums, big dents, small dents, they come out like magic. I picked up some dry ice today and put it to the test. First...

We should get mythbusters to do something on this!

I am going to do a bit of experimenting tonight, got me some map gas, heat gun, space heater, fender, and canned air. Fender's warming up rite now, then I am going to put a few dents in it and try to pop them with various heats...will have pics/video soon!

Well I did video but was very boring. Here are the dents (before and after)

Then I pushed the big one out some and did about 15 heat/cool cycles...no damage to the paint and metal didn't move.

these were all fresh dents (with a mini sledge) and the fender was room temp (about 70 degrees). I also cooled from the outside of the dent to the middle after heating with a heat gun till it was hot to the touch (after I cooled the metal it felt like it was outside all night). I think this only works on dents that you can easily push out with your hand in the back/inside of the fender. It was fun trying to see how much liquid I could pool up till it spilled off all over the floor.

I think it would only work for a dent that is pushed into a fender but the type of dent would be one that can be easily pushed out. I was able to push out the crease in the fender...the rapid heating/cooling cycle could not. Someone else try it and take some pics if you think it will work but I think it will be a $5 waste. On the plus side I could not get the paint messed up even after doing the same spot over 15 times so "it will seperate the paint and clear" and "it could spider web the paint" is a bunch of bs unless the paint job is total sh!t (think $200 job for the whole car at maaco).
