  • K Series MTF what do you use?

    What's up CTV I'm about to change the tranny fluid on my k20 and was wondering what people are using and or what experiences you've had with various fluids(amount of abuse/ length of time used would be very helpful).

    This is my experience and its why i want to know what you guys are running. I previously had an 05 RSX type s running Honda MTF, it would grind all the time and not go into gear all the way in 2nd and 3rd gear. I read about people switching to gm synchromesh with the friction modifier so I gave it a go and afterwards my tranny was butter smooth. Only thing is I Dont know how well the gm synchromesh holds up to heat and how the Honda transmission holds up in the long run with a different fluid. Any input would be apreciated

    Gm stuff is good shit your going to get ppl who are gonna tell you it's gonna fuck up your tranny but it never did to any of mine. I changed the fluid every 20 k although I was being excessive cuz I get it for free. If I where you crack the drain plug a little it drips some fluid out so you can check the content of it. If its dirty or burnt change it. Also I have customers that go 60 k before they do a drain and fill

      ^^what hes talking about is syncromesh and its junk and so think k series and any manual transmission after 2001 and up requires acura premium transmission fluid or honda mtf its the same stuff the clearences are too small to use anything thicker even if u threw 5w30 in your transmission it would shifter harder...the best way not to have that 2nd 3rd grind is to change the fluid and do aftermarket motor mounts what happens is the k motors the rock forward causing the cables to stretch and miss shifts or not shift all the way i have n 06 type s and i did hasport 70as and a flush every30k and i have no issues with my transmission

        so why would u put gm fluid in a honda?that makes sense how?

          Use Honda MTF. That tranny is fresh af. No need to use anything other than that

            honda/acura mtf. I ran 5w30 when I first put my k in. And it would randomly give me a 3rd gear lock out. I swapped over to honda mtf a few days later and never had the problem again.

              I'm talking about doing it with a transmission that has a issue and I've seen it help so no matter what you say to me ill stick to what I've seen I was just puttin in my .2 cents to the op not you

                Good to know about the engine twisting I know my GSR did that but I figured a cable tranny might be different. And yeah I know my tranny is perfect I was just seeing if anyone had some advice on a better fluid but I'll just stick with the OEM stuff its fine in this tranny. Thanks for the input

                  Honda mtf. Magic fluid won't help your problems go away. Most common grinds in a k series transmission is 2nd and 3rd. The problem will only get worse over time.

                        Who said anything about restoring parts? The op first paragraph states what other fluids members are using because he's about to change his . So i said torco.
