  • Need Help, engine knock, cylinder misfire boosted K20A3

    Story:

Today was going to be my last day with my ep3 before I sold it because my new evo has finally arrived. I took the 03 si for one last rip against a wrx on rte 9 (which I beat), but in doing so with all the noise, I bounced it off the rev limiter for a bit in 3rd gear (8000 rpm). I felt as if something wasn't quite right after that. As soon as I exited I noticed a knocking mechanical sound. Now the engine still felt ok, strong and smooth. Just a noise coming from within. Also got engine codes, cylinder 2, and cylinder misfire. These codes started the second time I started my car. Not immediately after the incident.

    Background:

Boosted (11 psi) with a revhard turbo kit, Hondata K100 chip (raises rev limiter), AVC-r boost controller, etc... etc...

    My Theory:

Because I bounced it off the rev limiter for a solid2 seconds (I have never done that before), I am guessing my valve springs are not up to snuff and at 8000 rpm, I got some serious valve float, resulting in some interference with the pistons, damaging the valves...

    Please Help:

Would my theory cause the knock I hear and the cylinder misfires? What do you think it could be? Thanks for your help guys.

    could be.

if its only cylinder 2... start at the basics.

check for spark, check for fuel. then do a comp. test on all cylinders. let us know what happens after that.

Compression was low in cylinder 4. Sound was more like a loud tick. Anyway, I needed to drive, and somehow after a 300 mile trip, I made it within 1/4 mile back to my house and it sounded like the valve finally broke, and then I had a big problem.... At least it was a short walk back to my house although it was pouring rain. I guess it doesn't really matter now what the problem is because I need a new head and quite possibly a new engine..
