  • h2.3 into a ek

im tring to do a h2.3 into a ek.i have the p14 with the step down and im useing a non v-tec single cam wire harrness.i also have the auto 2.3 wire harrness to hack up for the plugs.
what i dont know is what sensors to take out
    i dont need a link.
i need to talk to some one that has done THIS swap befor
so i can ask a bunch of dumb questions

so you are trying to convert the car to obd1? is the non-vtec single cam harness from your ek or is it a donor? if its a donor is it an obd1 or an obd2 harness? are you trying to eliminate your egr system or keep it? with these answers i should be able to help you out, i have a lot of time invested in wiring this swap

the single non v harness is from a obd2 96 civic and its standard
the 2.3 wire harness i got is auto obd1

the motor came from a 94 lude si auto
        i got a 95 h22 standard tranny
im tring to use the p14 ecu with a step down to mate with the obd2
        wire harness.

as for the egr.that was 1 of my dumb ?.
do i need to use it and if not then whats gonna happen?

all that needs to be wired on the h22 transmission is the vss (blk/yel,blk,blu/wht 3pin connector), reverse light (green, red butt connectors) and the starter which will all be in your dsreies harness. however, i recommend using the starter wires from your h23 harness if you can so you dont have to cut and splice. same goes for the alternator since it too sits on the front of the engine.

the exhaust gas recirculation is used to prevent nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas and is really only necessary if you plan on keeping the car emmisions friendly. it does keep your exhaust temps down tho. if the dseries harness you have came from a d16y5 with a cvt transmission than you should have those wires since it too uses an egr system. otherwise you will have to use the wires from your h23 harness

did your h23 come with an external or internal ignition coil?

            it has an external coil
i vote to remove the egr {it sounds easier]
as for the intake...do it matter that i have an auto intake
are there any plugs that dont fit or that have to be cut and mated with
            the single...
or are you for hire? lol

i think i have a good wire diagram for the distributor, i'll see if i can dig it up.

intake manifold shouldnt be an issue, but if that ecu is out of an auto it will be no good for your manual swap.

              where are you located?

there are a bunch of connectors that need to be swapped from your h23 harness and a few you wont need in your dseries harness, i should have a little more time this afternoon, i'll go through everything then

good deal, patience pays off! heres a couple of links that will help out with wiring your harness: obd1 pinout http://technet.ff-squad.com/wiring.obd1.htm obd2a pinout http://technet.ff-squad.com/wiring.obd2a.htm you want to plan everything out before you start taking the harnesses apart, a helms, chiltons, haynes, or honda Electrical Troubleshooting Manual will be needed for both your 96 civic and 95 prelude for wire diagrams if you do not already have them. its best to be methodical when wiring, starting at the injectors then working around the back of the motor is your best bet. your h23 motor runs low impedence injectors, 2-3 ohms, so you will need a resistor box if you dont already have one. the common wires feeding your injectors(yel/blk) will need to be cut. the four yel/blk wires coming from the main relay can be soldered to the one red wire at the resistor box. the four black wires at the resistor box will need to be soldered to the yel/blk wires going to your injectors. you will also need to depin the connectors from your h23 harness and use them in the dseries harness. you may need to lengthen the iacv wires(blk/blu, yel/blk 2 pin connector). the h23 iacv is on the front of the manifold and if memory serves me correctly, the dseries iacv is on the back. there will be a 3 pin connector(wht/red,blu/org,brn/blk) that breaks out of your dseries harness near the injector wires, this will NOT be used for your appplication. it is for a crank speed fluctuation sensor that is only used on obd2 motors. you will need to wire your Intake Air Bypass solenoid using the wires from your h23 harness. this is used to actuate your secondary butterflies. this is a two pin connector(pink,blk/yel), pink needs to go to a17 in your obd1 ecu connectors, refer to the link above, or if the jumper harness is wired for this then you can pin a26 in your obd2a connectors, again refer to the link above. the blk/yel wire can go to the big connector in back of the intake manifold with all of the other blk/yel wires. you will need to use your obd1 h23 distributor external coil and the connectors from your h23 harness.

TDC (top dead center) - ORN/BLU(dizzy color) or GRN(egnine harness color)

CKP (crankshaft position) - LT BLUE or BLUE/GRN(dizzy colors) or BLU(engine harness color)
CKPM (ground) - LT BLUE/YEL or WHT(dizzy colors) or WHT(engine harness color)
CYP (cylinder position) - ORN(dizzy color) or YEL(engine harness color)
CYPM (ground) - WHT or BLK(dizzy colors) or BLK(engine harness color)

ICM (ignition control module) - YEL/GRN

                      Power wire - BLK/YEL
                      Tachometer - BLU

                      ICM yel/grn

                      TACH blue

                      external coil has three wires
blk/yel (big wire) power from main relay
yel (big wire) connects to dizzy
grn connects to dizzy (this may be blue, dont confuse with tach signal)

take note of where each wire is in the connectors and swap one for one. pull the blk/yel from your dseries harness back to the h23 external coil, this will replace the blk/yel wire in the square 3pin connector from your h23 harness
hope this info helps, post up any other questions you may have
