  • title search question/ help??

so my brother bought a car a few weeks ago. he went to register and realized he lost the title and bill of sale. he calls the guy he bought it from to ask him to get a new title and bill of sale and the guy says he never registered it and that he dosnt have the info for the guy he bought it from. i've never done a title search before (never needed to) and dont exactly know how it works so can anyone explain what my brother now has to do to get a title for the car? about how long does it take. what if the person moved or died?

Damn that sucks. Best bet is having a small dealer get it for you and tossing them some money

Yea Im not sure how this would work. I bought my car with a missing title but since the previous owner had it registered in CT all he had to do was fill out the transfer of ownership. I guess for starters get a carfax and see where the car was last registered. If it was in RI that would probably cause some type of issue.
      Honda sucks. Over priced junk.

If you can find out who it was that registered it last there is a peice of paper that the dmv it cost 25 bux they need to sign it saying they lost the title and saying you now own it. Just fucking sign there name and be done with it 90 percent of the shit at the dmv is forged anyways.

It's pretty simple deal. Fill out a lost title paper work and hand it in with 25$ the DMV will trace back to the last registered owner and contact them and verfy the car was sold not stolen once that is done you will receive a title for the car. This could take as little as a week or as long as 6 mounths depending how fast DMV works and how easy it is to contact the last registered owner if they can at all. If there is not contact with the last own they run the car threw a few systems make sure it is not currently registered out of state or stolen out of state the. They will contact you..

The process can be done alot faster if you can find any paper work with the last registered owners info on it and go dercitly back to them also with a lost title paper I hand and have them fill it out along with you fill it out in the proper sections and have it notorozied and them you have a paper that is as good as a title and you can registere it with that.

If you can't find paper work or a way to trace back the last registered owner and you know some one in the police department that is the best way to run the vin number

You don't Need it notorized but if you get the wrong person at DMV in a bad mood then they bust your balls and waste your time if it is notorized then no reason for the BS
