  • Exhaust help please

Wats up guys I'm buying an exhaust for my 94 gsr, my question is...
If my headers have a 2.5 inch outlet and i put a 2.25in exhuast on it, will I be losing power because of making the piping smaller?
Also all the headers I found are 2.5in and I heard 2.5 in exhaust is alittle too much for basic bolt ons.
Any opinions please I'm a newb I need help lol
I plan to get the headers with the 2.5in outlet to a 2.25in test pipe to a 2.25in exhaust or.....
The 2.5in headers to a 2.5in inlet and outlet test pipe, to a 2.25in exhaust....
    Any opinions help thanks

Buy your exhaust around your HP goals I have seen lots of cars with bolt on's run 2.5inch exhausts and make good power plus if u ever want to run low boost or something u can keep your exhaust. On the other hand the bigger the exhaust piping the less back pressure u have so on a basic build low end torque will suffer. What setup do u have or are planning on building?

Just a stock gsr with headers intake exhaust short shifter, I just don't want to lose power making the pipes from the headers smaller, if I got with a 2.5 exhuast it will match the headers

For match up u really have to check what the header flange looks like then the test pipe and exhaust flange. Some are v bands some are either 2 or 3 bolt flanges u also have to check the hangers to make sure everything lines up. Just remember u can make anything fit with a cutoff wheel and a welder so if it's not perfect u can always make it perfect.

Yea I was Gona get the headers welded to the test pipe, so I'm not worried about that, I'm just worried if ill lose power going from 2.5 to 2.25

The exhaust will deff be more restrictive going down in diameter but depending on the specifics of your motor u might gain some low end torque. for a simple setup i think the HP loss or gain would be negligible. Just remember if u ever want to build a crazy all motor setup or go the forced induction route 2.25 may not get the job done and at that point u may be replacing/upgrading the exhaust again. I'm a firm believer in buying quality and buying once. My daily EM1 has a 2.5inch on it with a cat and an apex I ws2 muffler, if I ever decide to get off my ass and throw my turbo kit on I only need to swap the cat for a test pipe and swap the muffler for a magnaflow I don't like doing shit twice.

I'm never going turbo or building this motor so no worries there, thanks for all the info, basically I just want to figure out if I shud go with 2.5 or 2.25 with my 2.5 header, with just Bolt ons and the most wud be a mild tune with injectors and ecu chip nothing more then that, basically just looking at stock motor with bolt ons

2.25 should be fine I can't see why with that setup u would need the extra .25 inch.

Ok yea that's what I was thinking, but I'm just worried about the loss in power reducing the pipe size, so all in all 2.25 wud be the best bet?

Or you can always find a nice muffler/axle back and get custom 2.5 piping that can be another option gl

I was going to do that but the 2.5 isn't too big for bolt ons?

Easiest thing to do is get a nice header with a 2.5 outlet. If your getting a test pipe make sure it's 2.5 on both ends. Get the custom 2.5 piping and a nice muffler with a 2.5 inlet and you should be good and depending on your set up you can make good power
