I usually go to Cos' on the pike by Meriden. I've cleared my check engine light before walking in and handing them my keys, passed without fail. They'll pass about anyone.

^^That's extremely odd. I do emissions and for OBD2 vehicles the DLC doesn't just check for a CEL it checks for system readiness also. If you reset your CEL and didn't drive it through a 100+ mile cycle it will fail for parts of the system not being ready.
OP, just go to AutoZone. Have them scan it and see what diagnostic codes come up. Round down the problem, fix it, bring it to a garage and have them clear any CEL codes (pending and in the history). After that make sure you drive the car 100-200 miles to make sure it doesn't come back on. If it doesn't, bring it in and you should be good.
If you have any other questions you can PM me I'll help as much as possible.
