  • CT fuzz and RHD

I've been doing some research on here and have seen alot of posts about what Shops do the RHD conversion and how to register a vehicle thats already been given the conversion.

However, I don't see any threads regarding how to go about doing this conversion on a car you already own.

Unlike say Subarus or VWs, to do this conversion most of us have to basically re-weld the firewall and get our VINs to match the current registration.
I have an idea on how to get around matching all my VINs, and regarding insurance... what they don't know won't hurt'em.

My only concern is what might happen during a traffic stop.

So, Does anybody know the ct laws about doing this swap? Will I have to re-register the car as RHD. I kinda don't want to do that because that might open up a can of worms and will actally give the DMV an excuse to comb the car and NOT re-register the car.

    What are your thoughs?

You register it like a normal car it's just a conversion.

You can't say anything about the car being rhd cuz its.illegal to do a conversion cuz its Vin tampering.
now of the car has to go thru emissions you have to go somewhere you know because however does the test has to act like it has a dash Vin to do the Vin check
I know your car is fast, you were hauling ass when I passed you

Register it first, then do the conversion and keep the car on the low. Only take it to shows and stuff and don't race around like an idiot in it. If you get caught your car will get taken and you will be arrested. I'm pretty sure VIN tampering is a federal offense.

I had a rhd impreza and got pulled over in it and they treat it like a normal car once they realize where the driver is....just make sure the dashboard vin matches and youll be ok

You can get away with the firewall vin if you do a good job...but the dash is.the tricky one. Cuz of the Rivets

Honestly only if u get caught doin something illegal like street racing etc... And piss off a cop moat of the time they're cool with it... As far as vins all I did was put my dash vin in the original spot with original rivets ... I did not cut the firewall vin as that to me is more illegal than putting your original vin where it belongs..

Because when you run the VIN it comes back as a LHD vehicle. You MIGHT get a COUPLE cops who are cool and let it slide. But with the way the Honda game is its just not worth the money to risk getting it taken away. However, all foreign vehicles 20 years old and older CAN legally be imported and registered if you go through all of the proper procedures. Which as of 2012 you can get '92 civics.

Either way in my personal opinion I think it's too much money, time, and work to tie up in something that can be taken away. But like I said if you have a separate daily driver and just keep that one for shows and stuff, you should be okay. Good luck either way!

Actually, the dash is crazy simple. I'm not gunna explain how to do it. But if you have a basic set of drill bits and a rivet gun it seriously shouldn't take you longer than 5-10 minutes tops to do. I've done it before when I changed my interior to black on my EG.

Fortunately this is not my daily. I got two other cars to choose from and a Sport Bike. Honestly, I can count on one hand the amount of times I actually took the civic out this year.

For the most part the car only goes out for shows, maybe a cruise to NY Bear Mountain. Other than that I just tow it.

I just want to do something different. Considering how rare the model is anyway... I think a RHD will set it even farther apart.
