  • Issues with my new ek hatch with a JDM b20b swap

This is only my second ek and my first with a swap so be gentle on me! The motor is a rebuilt and all stock b20b from top to bottom. The previous owner removed the cat and o2 sensors so the car is running a straight pipe to a stock muffler. I don't like how the car is performing and I'm looking for some input and advice. It lags at between 2k-3500 rpm and it doesn't really come alive until 4k rpm and higher. At this point with moderate mechanical knowledge, im assuming that the car not having any back pressure may have something to do with this. And it doesn't have wide band so there's nothing to compensate. I just bought the car so I'm just getting started but before I start chasing dead ends and wasting money, Im in need of some advice as to where to start. The car is still quick and runs like a top but I know it's not performing the way it should. This car is a sleeper and an everyday driver so I'm looking to get it tuned back into top running condition. Any advice will help and is much appreciated. At this point I'm considering putting the cat back on to start eliminating equations. Thanks guys for any advice

Is it running a stock ECU? If so, not having any o2 sensors will cause a lot of problems.

Ok. Thanks man. It runs and drives good but that lag is bad from 2000-3500 rpm then it pulls.

I would not rip on it at all until you get an o2 on there. Shit, I wouldn't even drive it. It's going to be running really rich and will be pulling timing. You get an o2 back on there and it will be like night and day.

I'm running the same motor and had the same issue, and I had both o2's and a cat n still had that same lag late response..my solution was getting the obd2-1 jumper and getting the car tuned, result was a night and day difference in response and drivability although it only made 130HP exact (completely stock) its strong thruout the power band...hope this helps in your decision

That's not bad to the wheels. Really u have to look at the powerband.

Not bad at all, its taken down a few cars already including a lsv ek,fa5,ls Teg,b16crx,n a few more lol but the problem he's gonna have us u can't really use the stock b20 ecu's there usually auto anyways closest is an ls but still gonna lag, again my suggestion don't worry about cat/o2 unless u need emissions soon the tune can take care of those since u only need 1o2 for obd1 anyways, with a good tune it should solve all your issues..
