  • Serious Question

Alright everyone, so here it is.

Somebody offered me a trade for my Civic, and it came to mind, how do you even go about trading cars in Connecticut? What forms do I need (besides the obvious "Bill of Sale"), and what do I need to make sure he has?

    Thanks guys.

You guys just swap titles and fill out bill of sale forms and thats it.when you go to the DMV you will pay taxes based on your new vehicles book value

Well, here's the dilemma. I paid for my current car, but it's under my mom's name. Should I just have her sign the bill of sale form for my car before I leave, and then the bill of sale form for his car when I get home?

A bill of sale is only needed if u pay more then book value...cause if ur gonna put u paid 800 for tha car and its worth 2000 then dmv say u dont need it...u just need titles

If I go to the DMV to get this car I'm trading for under my name, will I need to bring emissions papers and all that?

If the car is under your moms name and is staying under your moms name SHE will have to go down to DMV and do it. Trading cars is just like buying another car and registering it, bring the title, you will need to fill out the registration form, bring proof of insurance and one of your plates if you are transfering them. Depending on how much the car is worth you still have to pay some taxes on it, pay for a new registration and the transfer fee.

When I did this to my 91 escort I left DMV paying only $85 lol so goodluck

Thanks for the advice, but yes, the plan was to have my mom go to the DMV when it opens on Tuesday. You also need emissions papers to prove the vehicle passed emissions - even if the previous owner had already had the vehicle tested. Unfortunately, I have to wait to drive my car - it sucks.
