replacing alternator questions

ok so i took out my old alternator and i put in my new one on my d16y8 but my question is, i have heard that you cant jump start the car with my absolutely dead battery because it will wear out my new altinator trying to charge my drained battery, doesn any one who had done this that knows what their doing know the correct procedure?

Then take ur battery to autozone an get it charged if your scared its free

you can do it and let the alt charge the batt but it is very bad for it charge the battery first sale you the hassle of doing the alt over again
