HARTFORD—
Two stolen cars crashed and the thieves fled when one of the car's owners went after them, police said Thursday. There were no serious injuries.
About 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, a driver was carjacked in the area of 145 New Britain Avenue, Sgt. Paul Cicero said. The thief opened the car door, and the driver got out, he said.
The victim then jumped into the passenger seat of another car and had that vehicle's driver — who had witnessed the carjacking — chase his stolen car, Cicero said.
A third car, which police said also was stolen, became involved. The two stolen cars collided on Roxbury Street, he said.
A thief bailed out of one of the stolen cars and ran, Cicero said. The other stolen car's operator continued driving, and the victim and witness kept up the pursuit.
When the stolen car got to Douglas Street, that thief also bailed and ran away, he said.
The thieves are described as black men, 18-25 years old, about 5 feet, 3 inches tall. One weighs about 200 pounds, the second about 140 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line: 860-722-8477 (TIPS).
