Not sure about CT, but in PA all you do is write up a bill of sale, sign the title over, and register it.
Bill of sale cannot be $1-100 anymore over there.

exactly, as long as you don't say you bought the car for $1.99 then it wont raise any eyebrows. but keep it cheap, otherwise you'll be taxed on whatever you put. example- i traded my bmw for my current ek hatch. i left the sale price of the bmw blank on that copy of the bill of sale and let the kid fill in whatever he wanted. then he did the same on the bill of sale for my civic, left it blank for me. i put in that i purchased the car for $1,100. nobody questioned it when i registered the car.

Now a days the DMV charges sales tax on the book value of the car being registered, well at least at the Enfield DMV, so really it doesn't matter what you put for a sale price.

not on a car that older than 10 years old...so u can put a cheap but not rediculous price on the bill of sale if its older than 10 years...thats what dmv told my brother when he rgistered his car

No Doubt, that makes sense. I paid Written amount on my Prelude(5Yrs ago), but paid Book Value on Registering The 99 Odyssey.
