ASE certification is good to have because it shows you know your sh!t esp. in mechanics but working at a shop is a good way i learned more in my body shop in a month than i did in a year at the school i went to but for mechanics i would deff go for my ASE testR.I.P Nick Haines

sorry bro schools are for suckers they dont teach you shiit, ive had plent of interns under my belt and they all suck asss thay dont know anything after a year or so in school, waste of time and money if you ask me, you can always work ata shop and take your ase tests whenever you want and as soon as you finish your 2400 hours they will send it to you.337_runner

Go to a community college that has an auto program...way cheaper than any of the technical institutes mentioned in this thread which are overpriced schools where you can learn the same ************ at a community college (if they have an auto program)...I know Naugatuck CC has an auto program that's like 2 years...and at the same time, you can take general ed classes so incase, you can get an associates degree after 2 years or you can go to school another 2 years and get a bachelors degree in some other major if automotive doesn't work out...but after 2 years in auto, you can take any/all the ase tests...and during the two years in auto, you also find a job in the automotive field (my friend worked at nissan but now is working at some performance shop and is currently waiting for his ase results back)...and plus, if you decide to take other classes while doing auto and get a degree, in the real world, you'll stand out way farther than someone with a certificate when it comes to employment, you'll make more money and get paid salary wise.
Just a suggestion although I think it's a good way to go. However, I seen many of my friends that went to UTI up in Mass or some other big name tech school. They come back home only to get jobs at dealerships/tire shops/car care centers....but only starting off as doing *************** work...I mean you could've done that right after high school but they are like 20-30k in debt from the expensive tech schools they went to...and also, they are not even ase certified...that you do on your own if you decide you want it.Last edited by EM1_Chris; 06-14-2008, 09:43 PM.2000 FBP EM1
