Question About OBD1 Emissions Testing

So my 1991 Toyota Camry V6 is due for emissions testing. The check engine light is on as well as the ABS light.

My question is, since it's OBD1, the check engine light being on doesn't matter right? Since it gets the sniffer?

Only obd2 gets plugged in.

Doesn't that only apply to OBD2? My car is OBD1, unless it applies to that too?

the CEL can be on for obd1 car for them to test it.

what they will look for is...

CAT inspection(is there one on there)

tail pipe comeing out of rear bumper(if you have a broken exhaust or they can probe it they wont test it)

gas cap test

vin cheack with reg or emission paper.

and a dyno run with a sniffer.

if they tell you they wont test it with the CEL on tell them to fuck off lol and if you have AWD they will do a idle test and free rev test.

tell you boy to go to different staton or pull out the rules on emission testin and bring it with him. they a BSin him. i do emission testin for work so sometimes places tell you that to get buiness and make money off your ass.

I guess I'll take it to have it tested then. I do have a very tiny exhaust leak at a flange (bad gasket?) but it's barely noticeable. Car does have a cat and the exhaust smells normal, no strong fuel or oil burning smell.

im kinda sketchy to get my 2004 done its OBD2 so no sniffer rite im running catless with a o2 simulator on the header i don't have a cell but if they spot the o2 simulator am i screwed ???

I'm more familiar with OBD2. No sniffer and it's just plug in. Some places just plug it in but some also check to see if there's a cat along with plugging it in. Some places also do other visual inspections.

For the place that I brought my 2000 Civic Si to, they plugged it in, checked for a cat and checked if I had a full exhaust system.

hmm i have a resonator how stupid are they.any places you know of that don't bother checking.

just pull the bulb in your dash for the check engine if its obd1 thats what i did on my boys del sol..

well on obd2 cars the dont look for a cat most of the time because it will throw a CEL if there is no cat. but you can try and see what happens

obd1 cars CAN have the CEL on to go threw emissions.
