hate to say it but schoolin is a waste of time in my eye i did some school work and you know what they dont show you shit they just show you how it should be i foudn the best way to learn is to get in with some one in a body shop and learn it form some one with experinece.

yeah i agree. but these days you need a degree in everything to get a job. and it doesnt hurt to at least try.
i was lucky and worked paied for my school but if you were to pay out of pocket such a waste of money just for some paper you can get in to alot fo shops that pay well with out the paper.

thats a good point. i guess then the hard part is finding a shop round here that does it.
i still think its probably a good idea to go to school as well, just cause i know next to nothing about it. just as a good start.

i agree 110% with ctgold i went to a votech school for body work started working at a shop when i was 17 now i been with them for 5 years and what they show u in school and what reality is its a whole diff ball game, schooling is a waste of time. in the past 3 years we been looking for a washboy and sander cuz i moved up to full time refinshing and we got kids that paid 15,20 grand at schools allover the state they couldnt cut it kids couldent even wash a car right or know were to start some would wash the weels then the mudd flaps and with the same sponge wash the freshly painted hood... if u want to learn the trade find a small local shop tell them u do anything to help out learn a little bit use common sense then move on tell u work u way up dont waste 20 grand on b.s training all they'll teach u is cool airbrush paint jobs how to buff cars and fix rust.
I learned how to do body work on my own. Not so much painting but replacing metal and fixing rust. That aspect of body work is pretty forgiving once you get a perfect fit on the piece you are replacing since you grind all of the weld away then skim it with body filler. Actually painting is pretty forgiving too since you sand most of the shit away but goddamn is it time consuming.

i agreee with him because i work part time in a body shop as a wet sander and buffer ive beeen there little less then a year and im aready painting doing minor body work and assembling and even on the frame machine aint nothing like getting in the body shop because you learn much more and faster that way then going to school im not saying school isnt the way to go i would try to do both
School is good for credentials. Proof, that you've put effort into learning and wanting to do this as a career and opens more doors for you than someone walking in off the street. Also it takes a year off the two year requirement to become ASE certified. You also get a heft 50% off almost any tool you'll ever need.
yeah im looking for a job in a shop somewhere. i got an offer from my family's mechanic, but i really dont know if he does body. but its probably better to get the shop experience as well.
