  • My 600hp d16y8 build

    Well after being so undecisive about what engine i should build next ive decided to settle with a D16y8 for boost. now the reason for me deciding to go with single cam is the following ..everyone under estimates a single (which i have for many years)..and also everyone is stuck on b series and k series you dont see that many fully built single cams that make serious hp anymore and its alot cheaper to go all out on a single
    I was talking to a co worker of mine wich is a single cam guru who came up with a game plan for my build and decides to start from the block up

    This is what ive purchasrd so far

    D16y8 bare block

    We decided to go with vitara pistons 8.5:1 compression and eagle rods combo wich are very reliable for up to 30 psi
    I also went ahead and purchased the top of the line darton M.I.D wet sleeves part number 400-100 from titan motorsports

    Here are pics of the sleeves and pistons still in box





    I will post up more pics of block and parts as i purchase and receive them

              the vitara pistion has made 600 befor but the Y8 block i would re think out of all the sohc block the Y series are the worst they have oil flow issues and are known to have issues with bering i would go for a Z6 block or A6 block beofr you get to deep in to the porject

              good luck man i love my sohc had many of them and will never give up on them

                Thanks people sleep on singles and ima keep the y8 and go with the z6 head also getting the pistons nitrate coated the kid thata making the game plan is a single cam geek and has done alot of research people may laugh now but once its all done they will bite their toungue

                    save you money on the nitrate coating not needed and they have found to get warn off quicker then needed so it more of a waste of money. makein power and wasteing money to make powere is just stupid. but look on d-series.org and you will see all the HP made and all the do and dont of vitras but i would def look in to a better block of at the least spend the money and get a ported and shimmed oil pump for it. geek or no geek it is not nasa here it a sohc lol

                      Frank know's his shit I would def listen to him and 8.5 is def to low for what you gonna do gonna need like 40-45 psi to make them numbers if it even gets that high.. ANd I don't sleep no car or motor seen alot of crazy shit and setups over the years..

                          It was suggested going aries pistons but already had my mind set on vitara

                            vitara pistion make great power for the money and are proven to make power in to the 600's but the only reason the compression is so low is because the pistion will not come all the way up to the top of the cylinder becaise with the eagle rods and the rist pin hight fjt makes a rod that get the pistion to the top of the cylinder and get the compression closer to 9's
