Turbo your car and profit. Seriously. The hard part is going to be not punching it. I know of several people who also have built d series all motor engines putting out 42 mpg. I want to try to build an 8 valve with extremely good crankcase ventilation and a small turbo to see what I can get out of it.
Keys to mpg
Light weight
Spending less time accelerating
The easier it is to get up to speed and STAY THERE with low throttle angles to more mpg you will get. And a good tune by someone who knows what they are doing (must understand the combustion process throughly to tune for mpg).WTF?! Racing.

i have tried hydrogen in my van and i can only get 4 mpg more..so now i can 28mpg..but im still working on it...and its easy to get any MPG gain because while im cuirsing at 70-80 mph im only at 1700RPM so at low rpm its easy to see MPG boostNow 97 jeep wrangler 4.0l stick. catback, intake, throttle body spacer. more to come...
