To answer your original question, No dont put a stock LS block mated with a stock GSR head, its pointless in my opinion. An LS/V is only worth it if you're going to put some work, time, and a decent amount of $$ into it. If your looking to build an LS/V do it right the first time. and it doesnt have to be expensive to go fast. Here's a pretty decent build list, that wont put too much stress in your pockets...
Head:
gsr head
itr cams
blox intake mani or you can keep your stock GSR to save money
get a Hytech Rep header on Ebay
BLock:
ITR RS Machine Pistons 81mm
APR Rod Bolts
GE LS/V Conversion Kit
itr water pump/oil pump/timing belt
arp headstuds
Thats pretty vague but you get the idea, but you can keep the stock LS crank, and rods, just make sure you use the rod bolts. Thats all you pretty much need, obviously there are other factors i know i left out like ecu, tranny and other small engine necessities (intake etc).
Now you can choose to build an LS all motor, but i always go against that unless you do some headwork, and throw some decent cams in there. a decent LS build that would scrape a few cars out here would go as follow:
Head:
Valve job, P&P
Crower valvtrain (valves, springs) keep oem retainers
crower 403 cams
blox intake mani (or something similar)
port LS throttle body
decent header
Block:
p30 pistons
arp rod bolts
arp headstuds
again vague, but will net you some decent power without the use of vtec. But with any build make sure you tune the car!..i cant stress how important it is to tune a car after an engine build. Good luck, and hit me up if anything!Last edited by it0sls203; 09-15-2009, 10:35 PM.

as long as the block is healthy and u dont rev it past 8200rpms and use a b vtec oil pump your fine.
tons and tons of people run stock block ls and b20 vtecs without issues. you just need to know the limitations of the setup.

idk man i really dont agree wit that i think buildin a ls/vtec is a waist of time in my book ls/vtecs are for ppl who got the time and know how to fuk wit em i wouldnt trust a ls vtec 2 dd ... and im petty sure that it isnt just the oil pump that fuks u over on a ls/vtec its the heavy ass crankshaft thats why i seen them throwing rods..oil pressure heavy crank that cant handle the high rpms ...nd just asking why is 8200 rpms the limit pretty sure a ls revs all the why to like 6800 or 7200 never owned a ls so i wouldnt know
im my opnion wit the money your waisting makin a ls/vtec reliable you could by a gsr or b16... to me thats more important i wanna be fast and still kno that after i race weather i win or lose my car will be taking me home ...
