  • questions about milling/shaving head

I got a d16y7 civic. I believe the head gasket is going. Im buying oem head gasket, oem head bolts and anything else that I need.

My question is do I need to mill/shave the head AND block? Or just the head? and how much does that usually run?

Or I dont need to mill/shave anything? This is a winter beater but i would like It to last me.

Did the car overheat? And if so how long did it run for? I usually mill the head before head gasket job

Yea its overheating. Didnt go all the way to "H" tho. Ive noticed my coolants been disappearing. I noticed the rainbow color in my coolant overflow. Radiator looks new and so does the thermostat housing, so im sure the thermostat was replaced. Im sure the previous owner had it overheating too.

So I guess i could just get head milled?

U can check if it needs to be resurfaced by putting a str8 edge ruler across it in various angles. See if u can see light threw it or use a feeler gauge. 45$ for a resurface where I'm from . Eastern ct
