  • D16y8 help!!!

    Okay so I was driving and my check engine light started flashing. I turned off my car and restarted it and got a solid check engine light. I pulled the codes and got a misfire on cylinder 3 and a DTC code. The engine runs fine at idle so I cleared the codes and drove the car. No check engine light and everything seemed fine. I keep driving and about 5mins later it starts flashing again but this time the car felt like it was losing power and the engine started to sputters. I can't find out what it could be. By the way my car burns oil and a decent amount of it. I add a quart every two weeks. I'm hoping I just need to replace the plugs due to the burning oil. But if anyone has any ideas or if this is a tale tale sign of a much bigger issue please let me know. The car is my DD and I need it on the road ASAP.

    prolly low compression in cylinder 3. compression test it. if u dont have one pm me ill meet up with u n do it for cheap.
    but it could be as simple as a tune up. check the plugs and wires and shit

        when my y8 lost compression, it would log misfires at idle, but would be fine at mid RPM. But check compression for sure.

        Anytime your CEL flashes like that, its recording active mis-firing. Thats the norm for most all modern cars.

        If your getting a flashing CEL and losing power when it happens, then id be looking at plugs, wires, and injectors.

          Pulled the code again and got this

          P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected
          P1399 manufacturing control. Ignition system or misfire.

          Now when I cleared the codes I drive the car no check engine light under normal driving. I put it in 3rd gear and punched it and the car sputters and the cel flashed again. I tried punching it in 1st & 2nd but the car didn't sputter. It seems like this happens when the engine is under heavy load.

            Here how all my plugs look. Ill start my replacing them all. Since its the cheapest thing. If it doesn't fix it ill get a new dizzy cap and rotor and work my way along.

              try swapping the injector to another cylinder and see if the code follows it.

                  I changed the plugs and took the car for a spin. I did the same test and put the car in 3rd at a relatively slow speed and stepped on the gas. The car is running a lot better and so far no cel or misfire. But until I get a chance to take it in the high way and open her up I'm not calling it fixed.

                    This fucking CEL came back on. This is gonna aggravate the hell out if me. It's misfiring again.

                        I didn't move the injector I just changed the plugs. But after I changed the plugs the car drove perfectly fine. I drive the car to the sandy hook benefit car show and all. Ill try the injector but if it was wouldn't it still have misfired right after I changed the plugs?

                          but why would it come back? when the cel came on is when u feel it?

                            I was on the highway cruising in fifth gear doing like 70mph and I notice my cel flashing. This I the third time this light has come on since Friday while I was driving on the highway. And yes the car drives fine until the cel comes on and then the car sputters and shakes if I try to give it a lot of gas. It shakes bad if I'm in 3rd-5th gear. I feel a power lost in 1-2 but its not a very noticeable shake.

                              i had a similar problem and I changed the plugs, cap, rotor and wires and it fixed
