  • noob D series question

A buddy of mine is scrapping a 98 Dx and asked if i wanted the motor. He said it was nothing special just a single jingle D series. My question is i know these motors can drop in just about any car but what should i make sure i get off this car so I dont have to worry about making a trip to the junk yard.
Right now i will get the motor, tranny, ecu. Axles he is keeping so i will pick some up. Is there anything else I should make sure i have? little stupid shit that could cause a hassle? Just wondering. I dont care about performance I just want to throw it in a shell and use it as a daily. Been thinking about a eg hatch or coupe or maybe just find the same Dx shell to put it in. Any info will be much appreciated.

X2 all depends on what you droping into it should be straight fwd if you droping to obd1 all you would really need, if you already have a d series in you eg, would b motor an trany cuz you would recycle your dizzy, intake, plugs, headers and mounts cuz the mounts do change from ek(obd2) to eg(obd1) corect me if im worng ppl!

Scooped the motor up, but forgot the type i believe it was a d15y6 or 5 something. Couldnt get the shift linkage because he wanted to keep it. It's a 98dx so would that make it obd2? Also said it could use a valve adjustment since it ticks at high rpms.

Right now i just have the motor, tranny and ecu. Axels will only matter on the car they go in correct?

As for the car it will go in, I'll probably end up dropping this motor into a EG coupe or hatch since those shells seem to go for alot cheaper then a ek shell right now. So I'll just start focusing on that instead of asking 100 questions about if it'll fit in this with this and that and blablabla. So any tips i should know throw them my way. Thanks for the info.

bump. What would i need to drop it into a eg coupe or hatch? I found a few cars that I'm about to look at. Do i need to make sure the wire harness is for a non-vtec as well?

i believe the harness should be from the car ur puttin it in. then u need to delete the knock sensor n i think another sensor. i could be wrong tho. imo its not worth puttin the y7 in a eg. either get a z6 or get a ek.

If it's ticking at high rpm a may not be the valves the motor prob spun a barring usually if ur valves need adjustments u can here a contend ticking like a real lite tickin u should look into be 4 u got blowing all this money on that motor

And if u do go into a eg u don't have to worry about a knock sensor that's only if ur goin obd1 to obd2 that motor will sit rite in and plug and play
