  • my timing belt keeps tryin to slip off

    yea just finished my mini me vtec project cars in timing and everything but the timing belt keeps tryin to slip off

    Either the belt is toooo big, or you can Make sure the tensioner is tight. Use a pry bar and push on the tensioner before tightening it so you get good belt tension ... D and B seires tensioners arent like GM belt tensioners where u let them go and they give it automatic spring tension. Use a pry bar and hold pressure on the tensioner while u tighten. The belt should be able to turn a little bit by hand but not toooo tigh. You will burn out your water pump and tensioner if too tight!

      i think the book says there should b a 1/4 inch mayb off like play/slack if that helps

        when i turn on the car the belt looks straight but when i turn it off u can see it slippin off a lil

          Nick, I have never tightened a timing belt like that.. From what I remember you install the belt tighten the tensioner rotate the motor 360. Then when its back at TDC you loosen the tensioner. rotate 180 then torque it down. Again dont quote me but thats along the lines

            your going to need a vx timing belt because its a 1.5 vtec and ur block is a 1.5 and that belt is smaller from a 1.6 i was doing it but i went to a 1.6 fully

              make sure you have the the belt washer on it goes after the belt and before the pulley on the crank

                i got a 1.6 belt on it someone told me it could be the tensioner but the belt stayz tight the tentioner tightins the belt i have is from the 93 ex d16z6 ..so ur sayin i would need a 93 civic vx belt

                  No nick ur100 % right but see when you work at a garage for a couple of years u start tto learn some small tricks but yea its all good
