y8 wont idle right, HELP!

Got a 00 EX. Got it for cheap because it was in need of a head gasket. I drive it for 200 miles to confirm the problem, and the car needed a HG.

Replace the HG, water pump, plugs, air filter, and oil.

Before the HG, the car would have a high idle. No CELS. After the HG the idle is higher and about a day after, it begins to surge. So i grab some carb cleaner and check for external leaks. None. Replace TB gasket and clean IAC. Nothing. I read in the receipts i got with the car and the engine has been replaced. When they did the engine, they replaced the IM gasket, along with other parts. I did not touch the IM when doing the HG.

So after all that, im driving the car and CEL pops on. Code 14 and code 67. I realize code 67 is a cat, and ill deal with that after i trace the idle problem.

So now the car has a 15-2000 surge, then it goes to a 1700rpm fast surge.

So i plug the FITV (cold start valve) and its now steady at 11-1200 after resetting the ECU.

Any suggestions?

This may sound wired but check your coolant and make sure its full. Some Hondas can be wired and when the coolant is low they will surge at idle

i did, new thermostat, bleed coolant system

Check your timing and make sure everything lines up right. If you want pm me the codes and all the info of the car and I can look it up at work. We have a program that tells you the most likely causes of the code/ problem of a certain vehicle you're looking for

I got the same problem I have searched Google, h-t u name it can't figure it out even a new iacv nothing returned it thinking it was bad still nothing gl my buddy at work that has been at Honda for 19 years told me it could be the coolant temp sensor under the dizzy he said he has had many of these problems Honda r known for this I haven't tried it yet so if u do let me kno lol how it goes the iacv runs on how hot or cold the coolant is to drop the idle at a certain point also ppl said by resetting ur ecu could make the car look for idle to relearn it basically nd I have mine unhooked at all times to save my batt that is in my bumper seeing how I don't drive it

take a screw driver or ratchet and tap on the iacv wile it is runing a bunch of time some time even a clean job on them will still make them stick and hang up i been down that road to many time some time you need to take them off and fill them with some oil like pb blasrer to freeall over night and then will work again

i could try a CTS. they do cause some funky issues.

When i cleaned mine, it seemed a lil over extended.

When i goto work tomorow, im gonna yank the intake tube and plug the IAC hole with my finger, it should drop to 750. If it does, its the iac. Ill report back

you can do that to... but i have alot of issues with the rotary style iacv like the ek and some k series ones from sittin the start sticking so i pull them soak them in pb blaster and take a pick and move the rotary valve little bit make sure it moves and springs back smooth and they fix's for me most of them time but if the light keep comeing on for the iacv i just change it and i am good i do alot of them to...
