Okay so this winter I'm planning on rebuilding d16z6..I've never done a rebuild on a running engine(besides gocarts) and I'm little scared..I know the fundamental parts of the engine but not everything... If any one had tips or tricks I can really use the help.

beat the ever living fuck out of it during the break-in period. it helps the rings seal.
put it through its paces, do city driving, highway driving, throughout the RPM range, bring it up almost to redline, let it down-rev in the same gear (helps suck metal shavings off the cylinder walls). no, im not joking. i've done it and it works. there's a few different schools of thought for motor break in, this is the one that works best for me. break it in how you're going to drive it. beat the shit out of it...within reason. no fast shifts (assuming you're doing a new clutch at the same time).
change the oil religiously. use reg. oil on break in, switch to synthetic around 5k mileage.
use vaseline to pack the oil pump gears so that it creates a suction and builds oil pressure quickly the first time you try and spin it over. use lots of moly(assembly) lube on moving components.
if using ARP headstuds, re-torque them at 50 miles and 500 miles.
here's the oil change schedule i've stuck to with good luck:
start the motor the first time, let it idle/warm up. check timing, make sure there's no leaks. burp the coolant system, etc. let it run about 20 min.
change the oil, filtering the oil through a paper towel as it drains to check for assembly lube and metal shavings in the oil.
drive the car 50 miles, retorque headstuds, change oil.
change the oil at 150 miles, 250 miles, 500 miles, 750 miles, 1000 miles, 2000 miles, 3,000 miles, then start doing changes every 3k. use reg. oil for break in, use a quality filter and make sure you change the filter with every oil change.

Wut Doug said is completely true.. And bearings don't seat or seal rings seal and that's what putting them through heat cycle is for. we put the single together everything new dropped it in the car heat cycle then on the dyno same day and have never had a issue with the car.. G/l860 member #18
