96 dx is most likely a d16y7 ie no vtec.

      Smoke colors:
White is coolant: bad head gasket (would also most likely have chocolate milkshake in oil pan and bubbles coming up in the rad all the time)
Black is running rich: shot map, tps, temp sensor, fpr (plugs would be black and carbon covered)
Blue is oil: bad rings or valve seals (can also find oil residue on the plugs)
Gray may be brake fluid: Master cylinder/brake booster is shot
      My work: Flikr.

ya no vtec....... would the smoke from the master cylinder come out the exhaust??
i cant RLY tell if its grey or white......kinda looks more white i guess. i was thinkin head gasket too but i got no bubbles in the rad.at least i think :/.....wat could be some other signs of this??
if it is white, its def the head gasket??

i WAS thinkin it is running rich and the cel is on for the map sensor and my plugs were kinda black with carbon...i just changed em tho.. lmk

Just make sure to get the correct ecu, obd adapter harness (if you are going to a z6 head), new gaskets, and new headstuds when you do it. Also wire up your vtec like this:

make sure you pull the dowel pin, it screws out, on the face of the block when you pull the head off, before you put the vtec head on, or you wont have corrrect oil pressure for vtec to engage.
My honda better than yours :D
