maintenance required?

i have a completely stock 98 civic ex coupe 5 speed. under the speedo there is a little square with "maintenance required" above it. this square used to be green but it turned red. What does this mean? is there something that i need to do or should i not worry about it. please help!

There's a lil black cut to the left of the trip reset stick the car key in there and it gos off...that's how I reset mine atlest
