Seller had a thread selling a d16z6 swap supposivly out of a DEL SOL Si. Hit em up, he said he had sold the motor, and only had tranny left. I said I'd buy it. I went down to Mass and picked up Tranny. The serial number on front read p20 which was fine. I asked again while I was there picking up the tranny what car it came out of. He said Del Sol Si again. I paid him the money, brought it home. Installed it the other day in daily, and drove it. The RPM on a si or ex tranny is around 3800(rpm) doing 80mph in 5th gear.
However, the tranny was reading 2500 rpm at 80mph in 5th gear. I also drove it in lower gears crusing on regular roads, and your doing about 1500rpm.
I txt him and tell him the gearing is way off from what it is supposed to be. He says hold on let me him up my boy; saying it was in his boys car. Then he says again that his boy said it was in a del sol si on a d16z6 motor. Obviously the tranny isn't a si tranny out of the car he specified.
I double checked the tranny before i txted him for a ID# thats in the casting on the tranny near the filling hole. I couldn't see any number like the one thats supposed to be there which is p20-a000 or p20-b000 (specifying whether it was a ex/si or dx,vx,cx tranny. I couldn't see anything in the spot, i have no clue why it wasnt stamped.
My gas/time/money was wasted because this person told me the tranny was something it wasn't.
I have no idea wether they tried playing me and knew the tranny was si or not. But if you are selling something and don't know what it is, you shouldn't be specifying it as something it isn't.
I only paid 100$ for the tranny. 20$ for new oem axle seals, and 10$ for Manual Trans Fluid. So Im not gonna cry about it. Just trying to point out the public the shit I went thru because someone sold me the wrong thing.
The seller still says its a si tranny even though i sent the pic of it in 5th gear at 80mph. I'm 99% positive its a VX tranny, because the rpm's were higher than that at about 3k with stock DX tranny.
