I'm using a Jdm type r motor with usdm ecu from a si and my friend is telling me that I can start the car with it but it'll throw the car off timing because the motor doesn't have a crackshaft position sensor on it. Is this true? Do I need to delete that sensor off the ecu or will it run fine without it?

based on what he is saying, the vehicle is an obd2b car using an si ecu. If the engine came out of an obd1 swapped car, then yes if the person ran a knock sensor (most dont because it can be disabled when tuning) the connector for the knock sensor will not be correct.

If it is an obd2 type r swap going into an obd2b car, then the knock sensor will be correct and to make the crank sensor register on a usdm ecu, youd need to do the ckf bypass so it does not limit spark thus making the vehicle not start.

message me. I have the exact setup. I had to use an si ecu to pass emissions. I have a 00 ex coupe with an oo b16b ctr swap. Text me 203-215-8996
